Austin McConnell finished his series finale of LG15 Outbreak on Wednesday, March 24, 2010 with a traditional 12in12 that we haven’t seen since the close of the first season of The Resistance.

I give the series as a whole, 3 out of 5 stars!  The 12in12 itself gets 4 out of 5 stars due to the fact that more action was packed into a 12 hour finale then the entire 8 weeks prior.

Outbreak promised to be the new series that gave the best of the original with some added entertainment and interactivity that would take it to the next level.  It fell very short of its promises!  There was nothing even resembling an LG15 story line aside from the mention of The Resistance, The order, and some mentions of characters from the past.  (Well we can’t forget the cameo appearance of Spencer).  As for interactivity… there was the bare minimum in a medium that was not exactly OPEN for everyone in the community.  The main mode of communication between characters and fans was through facebook. Facebook chat to be exact, and these chats were few and far between.  Some were lucky to even become friends with two of the three main characters on facebook.

Lets move on to the puzzles… Austin did throw us for a loop with a lot of his editing tricks and I’m still unsure if some of them were “puzzles” or simply “over emphasized” editing  tricks.  For example, the text characters that seem to come and go as the french phrases go on and off the screen.  Another being the green flashes that seem to appear in a few videos that had the youtube tag of “GREEN”.  There seemed to be no rhyme or reason for a lot of it yet fans spent several hours analyzing them for the sake of something to do between the text blogs and short videos that seemed to summarize what happened already.  Hopefully fans will get some answer to those burning questions about the puzzles when they have their live chat (date TBD)

Production wise, Austin did prove that his production crew was able to produce semi-professional videos with all their fancy edits.  I do however suggest that in the future they tone down the “haze” effect and use it for more dream like videos.  The effect seemed to be attached to every video in the series which was annoying to me but maybe it was a way to get peoples minds off the fact that there were so many plotholes throughout the entire series.  I have to agree that Valleygirl15 summed up the series very well in her review of Outbreak via YouTube.  We were left with a big chunk of “Swiss Cheese” after the finale of Outbreak!

I do however give props to Austin for putting on a show for all the fans while EQAL seems to be on a very long hiatus from The Resistance, but that’s a whole other story in itself!
